Pugilist (PGL) Abilities, Traits, Combos and Materia
The path of the pugilist is one of incessant training aimed at mastering the traditional techniques of hand–to–hand combat. Though they command formidable power when unarmed, they are wont to use metal, leather, and bone weaponry to maximize their destructive potential.
Their preference for fighting at close–quarters makes negotiating distances an absolute necessity. Many among them accomplish this by using throwing weapons such as the chakram to momentarily daze their enemies while they move in for the kill.
Below is a list of current actions and traits for the Pugilist class and the levels they are earned. Patch 1.20 saw massive changes to the abilities that the Pugilist class learns and the levels they are learned.
By completting quests the Pugilist can become a
Monk.
Abilities
Abilities are actions that the
Pugilist can equip to their bar and select to use at any time as long as their timer is available. Actions used in a combo will generate additional damage and effects.

The Pugilist class has the following combos which can be executed. These will give extra damage and effects.

Traits
Traits are not abilities and can not be equipped to your bar. They are just earned as you level up and are always active. As a result they require 0 cast time and have a 0 MP and TP cost. They are also all exclusive to the pugilist class and its
job Monk.
Materia Selection
To get the most out of your
Pugilist, you should aim to maximise their stats through
using materia that best benefits the class. A pugilist's main attributes are
STR and
INT, so focusing on these will be beneficial. Below is a list of materia that we recommend you aim for.
