Marauder (MRD) Abilities, Traits, Combos and Cross Class

FFXIV - Disciples of War - Marauder

The marauder is a combat specialist whose weapon of choice is the greataxe—a fearsome arm emblematic of Eorzea's pirates. Their approach to battle is one of brute force, relying on strength and steel to crush enemies and sunder weapons.

They are highly sought after for their ferocity and intimidating presence, and are often employed to hunt down monsters plaguing the land, or to turn the tide of battle between warring nations. Throwing axes such as the francisca supplement the marauders' arsenal, making them fearsome adversaries even at range.

Below is a list of current actions and traits for the Marauder class as of beta phase 3 of FFXIV: A Realm Reborn and the levels they are earned. FFXIV: ARR has seen many changes to the battle system over what was in 1.23.

By completting quests the Marauder can become a Warrior.

As a Marauder you should be focusing on STR and VIT as this increases attack power and HP and you will be tanking via damage dealt. DEX could also be considered but it is not as good an investment as STR and VIT.


Abilities


Abilities are actions that the Marauder can equip to their bar and select to use at any time as long as their timer is available. Actions used in a combo will generate additional damage and effects.

Delivers an attack with a potency of 100.
Combo Action: Maim
Combo Potency: 250
Combo Bonus: Absorbs 50% of damage dealt as HP and lowers the target's damage dealt by 10%.
Duration: 20s
Grants Wrath when used with Defiance. Duration: 30s

Draws target towards caster, and binds both. Duration: 6s Most attacks cannot reduce your HP to less than 1.

Reduces damage taken by 30% and delivers an attack with a potency of 50 every time you suffer physical damage. Duration: 15s
Grants Wrath when used with Defiance. Duration: 30s

Delivers an attack with a potency of 100.
Combo Action: Maim
Combo Potency: 270
Combo Bonus: Decreases target's slashing resistance by 10% and HP recovery via curing magic by 50%.
Duration: 15s
Grants Wrath when used with Defiance. Duration: 30s


Combos


The Marauder class has the following combos which can be executed. These will give extra damage and effects.

Heavy Swing > Skull Sunder

Traits


Traits are not abilities and can not be equipped to your bar. They are just earned as you level up and are always active. As a result they require 0 cast time and have a 0 MP and TP cost. They are also all exclusive to the marauder class and its job Warrior.

Cross Class Abilities


In FFXIV: A Realm Reborn it is possible to use some abilities from other classes providing you have unlocked them on that class. You can then equip them on your Marauder no matter what your level.

Reduces the chance of suffering critical damage by 25%.

Erects a magicked barrier arround a single party member or pet. Duration: 30s
Barrier Effect: 20% chance that when barrier is struck, the striker will deal 10% less damage. Duration: 20s

Reduces enmity generated by each attack.

PvP Actions & Traits


PVP actions and traits are skills which can only be used in PvP battles. They can be purchased using Action Points (AP), which is earned via fightng in PvP battles. In general there are three potencies of each action and you can upgrade them by spending more AP on them. For more on PvP, visit our PvP pages. For a Marauder we recommend you go for Strength or Vitality with the traits.

FFXIV - PVP - Mythril Tempest Mythril Tempest 240 0y
Delivers an attack with a potency of 140 to all nearby enemies.
Additional Effect: 10-yalm knockback and Stun Duration: 2s
Enhanced Mythril Tempest: Shortens recast time to 150 seconds.
Enhanced Mythril Tempest II: Increases potency to 200.
Enhanced Mythril Tempest III: Increases duration to 4 seconds.
Enhanced Mythril Tempest III: Increases duration to 4 seconds.
FFXIV - PVP - Purify Purify 240 0y
Removes all detrimental effects. Can be used regardless of status affliction.
Enhanced Purify: Shortens recast time to 150 seconds.
FFXIV - PVP - Thrill of War Thrill of War 300 0y
Increases maximum HP of self and nearby party members by 15% and restores HP by 15%. Duration: 15s
Enhanced Thrill of War: Shortens recast time to 180 seconds.
Enhanced Thrill of War II: Extends duration to 25 seconds.
Enhanced Thrill of War III: Increases HP increase and restoration to 25%.

On the ps3, Bring up the Actions & Traits screen. Go to the 'Additional' option. You can then select the cross trait you want. Once you've selected them, you can add them to your hot bar.

I'll look into Bloodbath tonight.

As for Defiance, it is a Warrior skill. WAR being the job for MRD.

Bloodbath has changed since this was put up. It now converts 25% of physical damage dealt into HP for the duration of the ability, and not just for the next attack.

I've tried to figure out how to add abilites (cross class) on ps3 and i cant figure it out. do I need to use the keyboard? Where do I add them?

In the combos section you forgot to list Heavy Swing -> Skull Sunder -> Butcher's Block.
