Final Fantasy XIV features a brand new world called Hydaelyn for players to explore and get lost in. The world is split up into different regions, one of which being Eorzea. Nothing is known about other regions as of yet. It will be possible to travel within a region without having to load zones like in Final Fantasy XI, but there will be some loading between regions.


The world has a high technology setting but not to the levels of Final Fantasy X or XIII, but this indicates that technology will play a bigger role than it did in Final Fantasy XI. The developers have compared the setting to that of Final Fantasy VI.
