FFXIV News - The Launch of FFXIV Info V2

FFXIV V2 may not have been released yet, but FFXIV Info V2 is here!

We felt that the design of the website was in need of refreshing as the old design had been in use for 3 years and was starting to look a bit ugly. We went with a dark theme to reflect the dark nature of the upcoming FFXIV relaunch, FFXIV: A Realm Reborn, which we will be covering later this week during GamesCom. The site logo has also changed to reflect this.

The usability of the website is the same and the design shows some similarities to the old. Some of the colours we have used on pages in recent months had this design change in mind, the tables being an obvious example. The new design has allowed us to place the popular item database search feature in the header so that it is accessible no matter which page you are on.

The site is a bit wider now, which allows us to fit more on pages when displaying tables etc. We found that over 95% of our visitors have a screen resolution of over 1200 pixels so it felt right to bump it up a little. With the side bar being on the right it does not hinder usage for those still running 1024x768 anyway. The site should also be more accessible to those browsing on phones due to a fix in the centring of the layout.

We've also fixed a bug in crafting and materia searching that meant the items in the result linked to the current page rather than the craft or materia page they belong to, meaning incorrect class information could be given in crafting searches. A lot of pages have moved around internally to help with site structure. Hopefully we have all the correct 301 redirects in place but if you notice any 404s (broken links) please let us know by leaving a comment here.

Since making the new version live we've noticed a few minor issues, such as the background image not being very good on certain pages, so this will be addressed in the near future. Going forward we will add more member pages and make adjustments where necessary.
