I agree with you Calaera, there really is no need for a wyrven/dragon pet in XIV. Dragoon has always had a dragon theme, but never really had a dragon pet in many of the FF games, so I don't know why the 1 or 2 games that do have dragons are used as evidence. XIs job system is mainly modeled after FF3 and the tactics games, both of which don't have pets; however, the designers took creative liberties to make XI unique.XIV on the other hand is its own game despite the similarities it shares with XI. The pet jobs in XI have always been stigmatized and to this day have several balance problems that I'm sure the XIV devs are trying to avoid at this point. In addition, summons (Primals) have been removed from the players direct control and been elevated to deity status, which is different from XI where anyone can buddy up with the avatars provided they complete the quest. Essentially, things change and there is very little continuity between FFs except in theme/image. A dragoon is still a dragoon without the dragon, but I feel the jumps and spears are more iconic of the job. But to each his/her own. |
