Final Fantasy XIV News

Famitsu have this week released an image of the world map of Final Fantasy XIV. The three starter towns of Limsa Lominsa, Ul'dah and Gridania are clearly visible as well as another city called Ishgard. Speculation is that this city serves as a central base in the way that Jeuno does in Final Fantasy XI.

Limsa Lominsa, the port city where alpha testers have been playing is located to the west of the small island in the centre, while the desert city of Ul'dah is located in the south of the large continent. Gridania is situated on the eastern side of the continent in a forested area, while Ishguard appears to be located on mountainous terrain towards the centre.

Other than these cities, there appears to be two small circular towns surrounded by wall on the far west and far east of the continent. Perhaps they aren't towns at all, they could be outposts or anything, we will have to wait and see. In the north-east corner of the continent we can see the Garlean Empire, who have been at war with Eorzea in the past.

It is hard to judge how large the world is based on that map, but we have seen leaked information about the region map of the island outside Limsa Lominsa and it is massive. Based on the scale of this map and the island size in the world map we can all look forward to a very large world.
